Industry Trends: flexible or permanent?

Date modified 5 February 2024

It remains a difficult choice for many entrepreneurs: do I opt for a flexible workforce or do I opt for a more permanent employee?

There are almost 2 million flexible workers in the Netherlands, more than 1 million self-employed people and millions of permanent employees. Many permanent employees are immediately offered a permanent contract, the market simply demands these types of offers at the moment, but why is this flexible workforce so important?

Employment agency Tot Uw Dienst has been supplying flexible workers in many different industries for years and knows what it's all about. Geert Verbruggen of Tot UW Dienst: “In principle it is very simple: we have the connections and the know-how to quickly offer reliable people during seasons and other peak times or to scale down in other cases. This gives the client a lot of peace of mind but is also cost-saving. In addition, flexible employment contracts have an end date, so you can be sure that you will have no further obligations at the end.”

There are advantages and disadvantages for both types of employment contracts. The choice you ultimately make as an entrepreneur depends on your company-specific situation. Is your company growing quickly and do you not want to take many risks? Or are you dealing with varying customer demands? Then working with flexible employees (the flexible workforce) may be the best solution for you.
